Sanderling Is Thankful For a Close-Knit Community
As a Waldorf school, we place a very high value in building and maintaining a strong sense of community. We recognize that a strong and involved community fosters the happiness, success and overall well-being of each member -- particularly our students. This is why the old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child,” resonates so deeply with us. The Sanderling Waldorf community is truly a modern-day “village” composed of like-minded parents, teachers, administrators, and board members with shared values, all collaborating for the best interest of each child. This is why we gather so often to enjoy fun events, traditions and festivals. This is also why, when Covid hit and we were unable to gather, it left a profound emptiness in each of us.
But, now, we are overjoyed that we have been able to re-introduce some of the community-building traditions that we have missed so much, such as our annual Soup Potluck. This event was SO much more than just soup. This was the very first time that we could gather and socialize in person since Covid first hit, and this single event brought back a renewed sense of community at Sanderling. The evening was filled with a sense of relief, a sense of healing, a sense of peace and heartfelt gratitude for each other. The happy smiles on so many faces painted a picture of just how much this evening meant to everyone in attendance. What a perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving this past week, filled with gratitude for a restored community that we all know and love so much!
