A Bridge Between Home and School

The Early Childhood program is a bridge between home and school for the young child. Children of this age learn primarily through play and imitation. The Waldorf environment fosters the child's capacities for imagination and creativity.

The rhythms of the day, week, and seasons provide a structure within which the child gains a secure relationship to the world. We work with raw natural materials for a true education of the senses. Creative play, storytelling, circle time and artistic activities provide a balance between the free, creative expression of the child and the teacher-led group experience.

Our mixed-age class is led by one teacher and one assistant, with no more than 18 children enrolled.

How Children Learn in Our Kindergarten

Imaginative Play

Open-ended, child-centered play with natural materials forms the heart of the Waldorf early childhood experience, building creativity and inner resourcefulness.

Circle Time & Song

Daily morning circle weaves together movement, seasonal songs, finger games, and verses that nourish the child's sense of rhythm and community.

Nature & Seasons

The classroom reflects the living world outside. Seasonal nature tables, outdoor play, and festivals connect children to the rhythms of the natural year.

Organic Snack Preparation

Children help prepare a warm organic snack each day — chopping, stirring, and setting the table — building practical life skills and a love of nourishing food.

Storytelling

Rich oral storytelling — fairy tales, nature stories, and seasonal tales — cultivates the child's listening, imagination, and inner picture-making capacities.

Artistic Activities

Watercolor painting, beeswax modeling, drawing, and handwork are woven through the week, engaging the child's will and developing fine motor skills.
